College Football Midseason Takeaways

We’re roughly halfway through the current college football season, which means it’s time to look at some of the takeaways that we can come away with through the first half.
As always, we’ve seen crazy finishes, huge upsets, outstanding performances, and a lot more, but in this piece, I’m here to breakdown the five biggest stories of the season so far, and how they may impact the rest of the year moving forward.
So without further ado, let’s go ahead and dive in.
1) How Good Is Tennessee Really?
Through Week 7, I think it would be foolish to argue that the Tennessee Volunteers may have the best resume in the nation. They have a win on the road over then Top-20 Pitt, a home win over then ranked Florida, a road blowout in Death Valley against a currently ranked LSU team, and now a home victory over Alabama, in what is currently the best win anyone in the country has so far this season.
The question remains however, which is, are they really that good?
Pitt no longer looks all that good, and the Vols had to sneak away with that victory, Florida already has three losses, and is quickly fading into irrelevance, LSU is extremely inconsistent, and while the Alabama win was huge, it did come with some questions.
More specifically, when talking about Tennessee’s win over Bama, you would be remiss if you didn’t at least address a few of the questionable missed calls in the game, virtually all of which ended up going the Vols way, as well as pointing out that it was arguably the most undisciplined Crimson Tide team we’ve seen since Nick Saban got to Tuscaloosa in 2007.
And even with all of that, it took a missed Will Reichard field goal for the Tide, and a last second field goal of their own, to knock off Alabama at home in Neyland.
So with a game against Georgia, on the road in Athens, still left on the schedule, I’m questioning as to whether this Tennessee team is truly as good as they’ve looked to this point. The offense led by Hendon Hooker is certainly one of the nation’s best (they’re currently the number one offense in the country statistically), but the defense does have some serious questions, and I’m concerned that the rough defensive play…
